Interim Report for 2018-2019

Community Service

Paul Lim, ASD-CS

1. Specific Goals during the term

To encourage all regions under the Asia Pacific Area to come up with the requested CS Report to show case their respective region community services done during the specific months.

2. Measures To Be Taken To Achieve The Above Mentioned Goals

Although the responsibility to report and the schedule reporting dates already contained in the Memo from the AEOs, I also sent out 2 e-mails to all RDs & their regional offices, if available, to remind them for the preparation & to report on the requested CS projects.

3. Achievements Made

4 Regions responded out of 7 regions, or a little over 50% responded.

CS Report Received:

  1. Japan West Region
    • Kyoto-bu District, Aug. 16, 2018 – attended the summer festival held by Shirakawa Gakuen to sell some fruits & ice cream at the festival
    • Kyoto-bu District, Aug. 18, 2018 – Kyoto-West Club held the yearly bamboo forest maintenance event, which started in 2009. Children from Heiam Tokugi nursing home participated
    • Rokko-bu District, Aug. 25, 2018 – Kobe-Port Club supported the children nursing home Kobe Shinseijuku’s summer festival. All profit from the snacks sold by the club were donated to the nursing home.
    • Seto-Sanin-bu District Sept. 15, 2018 – Okayama Club supported the YMCA Camp in Yoshima held by YMCA Setouchi & Kobe YMCA to cheer up the children suffered from West Japan flood disaster in July, 2018
    • Kyusyu-bu District, Sept. 29, 2018 – 12 clubs supported “Smile Soccer” exchange event to promote friendship of children suffered from Kumamoto Earthquake in 2016 with the local children.
  2. Sri Lanka Region
    • Education – most of the clubs provide tuition fees for the needy and for extra classes monthly until the students sit for the 2 public exams which are needed for their future career
      • Moratuwa Club supported a student with monthly donation till the end of 2019;
      • Young Moratuwa Club supported 8 students, 4 are being paid thru YMCA Moratuwa; Colombo Club sponsored a school going child on monthly basis; donated pre-school equipment & an Electric Organ to Blessing Child Center sponsored by Elizabeth & Margarethe of Norway
      • Kurunegala Club pays for the monthly Bus Season tickets for the girls in Lourdes Home to attend school and donating books & math flash cards to school children in Welgolla Junior School & Wayamba Shilpa Vidyalaya;
      • Mohanuwara Club sponsored transport to a disabled child to attend school
    • Medical Services
      • Colombo Club sponsored 2 leprosy affected families
      • Young Moratuwa Club provides monthly donation to patients who underwent heart surgery to purchase medicines
    • Green Activities
      • Kurunegala Club distributed plants to a village for Home Gardening, July 07, 2018
      • Mahanuwara Club distributed Jak Plants to Kirinda School in Gampola
    • Other CS Projects
      • Moratuwa Club, received through Norway IBC, donated to different able girls at girls Home in Katukurunda to buy sewing materials and other projects;
      • Colombo Y’s Men gave 20 One World Chevrolet Futbols to Motatuwa Y’s Men for underprivileged children sports association in Moratuwa as a joint project with Colombo Club to commemorate International Children Day on Oct. 06, 2018;
      • Young Moratuwa Club have ongoing project of providing dry rations, tuition fees, medical aid, milk powder, etc for the underprivileged Children of Blessing Centre; the club also donated financially to Dinesh at Matugama to complete his house; construction of a house for Fisherman Family Asela & Kanchana in Koralawella, Moratuwa, partly funded by Elizabeth & Margarethe Halvosen of Norway;
      • Negombo Club distributed toys to children in prison;
      • Y’s Menettes Club of Dehiwela sponsored a tea party with snacks for inmates at the Salvation Army Elders Home at Station Road Dehiwela on Sept. 22, 2018
  3. Taiwan Region
    • July, 2018 – Supporting Water Safety
      North District donated 40,000 bottles of drinking water to rescue Units of Panther River, in cooperation with the local Red Cross.
    • October, 2018 – Reverence for elders activity sponsored by Center, South District;
      Center District donated money to Taiwan Light of Love Association;
      North District donated Courtesy Umbrellas to Keelung Train Station & also donated Scholarship to Senior high school
    • November, 2018 – Three on Three’s basketball game for Zero drug abuse activity by South District; YMC with YMCA of Tainan held this activity to encourage youth to take the sports in their leisure time, and to say no to drug abuse;
    • Annual routine by the whole region
      - Blood Donation, October 14, 2018 (9:00AM to 5:00PM)
      - Adopt Park by North District
  4. Philippines Region
    • July to August, 2018, YMC RAHA Philippines
      Project: “Bota Sa Mga Nababaha” (Rubber Boots for Flood Affected Families)
      Recipients: 75 families of flood prone areas in the two barangays:
    • Brgy. Damayan, Caragay Compound, San Francisco del Monte, Quezon City
    • Brgy, Tatalon, Villa España Subdivision, E. Rodriquez-Araneta Avenue, Quezon City
    • September, 2018, YMC RAHA Philippines
      1. Joint Project with RAHA Family: 46th Alay Lakad (Walk for a Cause)
        Date & Time: September 23, 2018, Sunday – 430AM
        Venue: P. Burgos St., Across Planetarium, Manila
      2. Joint Project with RAHA Family: RAHA Cares
        Date & Time: September 28, 2018, Friday – 6:00AM
        Venue: Cristo Divino Tesoro Parish Church
        Brgy. Buenlag, Calasiao, Pangasinan (3.5Hours drive from Manila)
        - Distribution of 200 packs of relief goods for the community affected by typhoon; Project cost US$1,000.00
    • September – October, 2018, YMC RAHA Philippines
      Joint Project with YMC Makati Sampiro,YMC Golden Makati & Makati YMCA
      Feeding Program for 50 homeless children staying in Manila South Cemetery with ten (10) high school volunteers teaching the children on good values, hygiene and how to say “thank you”, good manner & right conduct
      Date & Time: Five (5) Saturdays- Sept. 29, Oct. 06, 13, 20, 27, 2018 (8:00 – 10:00AM)
      Venue: Manila South Cemetery, South Avenue, Manila
    • October 31, 2018, YMC RAHA Philippines
      Donation of Microscope, stethoscope and sphygmomanometer to General Ricardo Papa, Sr. Memorial High School, Taguig City
    • November 18, 2018, Manila Downtown Y’s Men’s Club
      Project: Community Outreach and Feeding Program
      Date & Time: November 17, 2018, Saturday (3:00-5:00pm)
      Venue: Brgy 43 Gym/Basketball Court, Bustamante Street, Caloocan City
      Beneficiaries: 500 Kids in and nearby barangays

Continuous communication to encourage more regions to respond & sent out their CS Report for the next Year-End report.
