Interim Report for 2018-2019

YMI Liaison to YMCA

Kohei Yamada, ASD-YMI Liaison to YMCA

1. Specific Goals during the term

To strengthen the partnership between YMCA and YMI in many countriy base by promoting dialogues. My role is to encourage dialogues by identifying proper liaison persons among YMCA staff or YMCA retirees who are also active in YMI movement in their own countries.

At the time of APAY Executive Meeting of April 2018 in Hong Kong, IP Moon as the head of the host committee of IC18 @ Yeosu, Korea proposed to inviting 30 potential liaison staff from YMCAs in the world. I have approached all Areas for selecting such individuals for attending the IC18 in Korea. As the result, As the result, 10 staff members from abroad and 11 staff members from Korea (one from each region) came to attend the forum on YMCA Partnership and discussion among liaisons.

2. Measures to be taken to achieve the above mentioned goals

To make the IC18 forum and discussion among potential liaison staff members would be the key factor for partnership building between YMCA and YMI in each country.

From Asia and Pacific Area, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Sri Lanka sent one staff person who could be a potential liaison and Japan sent two staff members. The discussion was held in group and individually and made plan of actions for every person as written in the report (Attached with this report)

3. Achievements Made

The meeting in Korea was very eye opening for many staff members of YMCA. However, many have not yet sent their follow up report except a few. I think it is important to select some staff as a liaison and hold good discussion with the YMCA leaders as well as YMI leaders in that country before and after such meeting.

4. Challenges

Coomunication with RSD is all up to ASD's idea and commitment. Therefore it is very difficult and one year role (as RSD without seeing each other make it difficult to follow up. If the coordination could be done well, those countries, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Tiwn, Sri Lanka and Japan could be followed up easily and have more possibility of developing stronger partnership.

After the event, follow up work was not done within the country and I asked reports but not many sent any response so far.

5. Future Activities Planned

I have to have good communication with individuals who came to Korea. I would contact individually by email and follw up the planned actions.

6. Additional Comments

Face to face meeting is necessary in order to move further more. Selection of a liaison in country basis is very important. I believe an executive position, for example vice CEO, would be a good person if this parntership is important for the YMCA.

7. Motions To Be Considered By MYM

I would like to hold such liaison meeting in Asia Pacific Area Comvention if possible. And selection process of such person takes time. Threfore early stage decision would be necessary.
