MYM Report for 2021-2022

SongFest Project

Report Date: 8 Feb 2022

Asaba Shunichiro, Chair of SongFest Project of Asia Pacific Area 2021-2022

1. Your expectations to make a difference during Nov.~Jan.2022 -Update on Progress

  1. Due to the COVID19 pandemic with activities being slowed down, the submission deadline for both (1) Y's Original Songs and (2) ASP Songbook has been extended to end January 2022. It has been noted that the interest towards this project is high among clubs and regions where a musically talented members take active role in promoting the campaign. It is appreciated that the Taiwan Region hosting the Centennial Convention is very pro-actively engaged preparing for the ceremony in spite of the pandemic.
  2. The planned ASP Songbook will now be divided into three chapters; (1) ASP Original Songs, (2) ASP Country Songs and the new (3) Y’s Favorite Songs. Songs such as YMCA songs, songs composed by Ys men and Christmas carols and all time favorite songs will be included in the “Favorite Songs”.
  3. A total of six Original Songs have been submitted. Six countries have identified typical songs that can be included in the Country Songbook. Three songs will be included in the “Favorite songs” and more are expected.
  4. Twenty-six men and women are now included in the Musical Y’s Men Roster.

2. Step taken to-date to achieve Goals and Key Target 2021/2022

  1. By end June, we expect to finalize the Songbook. All necessary work will be planned and undertaken with this tentative time limit.
  2. We will try to collect songs from all ASP countries and, in the process, invite other Areas to do the same so that the Songbook will have more global character.

3. Challenges

  1. We need to find ways to promote the SongFest campaign. For this, in addition to the Regional Task Force leaders, we should identify active servant-leaders that are willing to take on clerical work, make contacts with relevant members and outsiders and creating opportunities to highlight the campaign.
  2. As a longer term challenge. Area Secretariat may wish to collaborate with the Regional Secretariat to come up with additional tools to promote the Centennial project if it is meant not merely to celebrate the Centennial but also to take the unique opportunity to set in motion a new drive to innovate the movement to attract the new generation and address new global issues. With renewed enthusiasm, we should work on a mid-term post-centennial plan by starting discussions at all level in terms of its mission and vision and in the process identifying regional/district challenges and inter-regional cooperation.
