MYM Report for 2021-2022

Area Development Committee

Report Date: 11 Feb 2022
David Lua, Chair of Area Development Committee of Asia Pacific Area 2021-2022

1. PREAMBLE

The Area Development Committee ("ADC") was first created in 1994 when Korea was in the Asia Area.  The elevation of the Korea Region into the Korea Area resulted in the ADF being split equally between the two Areas.  Since then, there were Task Forces created to review the activities of the ADC but there had not been any significant development.

The ADC was reconstituted during the term 2020/21 with the approval of the Area Council.  The primary objective is to provide continuity as a think-tank in the planning and strategizing of actions required to develop the Area.  It serves as additional resources for the incumbent Area President.  The first meeting was held on 18 Feb 2021.

2. ADC Members

The Committee comprises senior leaders from the seven Regions in the Area.  They have held leadership positions at the Area level, ie. PAP/PICM or PIPs.  These are:

PIP Jennifer Jones, PIP Wichian Boonmapajorn, PICM Kan Tanikawa, PAP Kazuhiko Takata, PICM Dr. Ramona Morales, PAP Edward Ong, PAP Rita Hettiararchchi and PAP Tuung-Ming Hsiao.

AP Troika sits as ex-officio members, namely AP(2020-21) David Lua, AP(2018-20) Hiroyuki Tanaka, and APE (2020-21) Ohno Ben.  Secretary: AS(2020-21) Keiko Tonegawa.

The appointments were for a three-year term ending 30 Jun 2024.  The chairmanship was elected by committee members.

Ex-officio members will officially join the ADC upon their exit from the Area Troika.

3. TERMS OF REFERENCE

The responsibility embraces the oversight of the Area Development Fund.

4. MEETINGS HELD

Six meetings had been held to date with two during this term.  The Committee was updated by the AP on significant developments in the Area.  A broad range of issues was discussed.  In the latest meeting, Committee members agree to serve as mentors/advisors to their respective RDs to strengthen the Region.

The Meeting held on 8 Feb 2022 agreed to the subsidy of USD5,000 from the ADF to the AAC Host Region, Taiwan as requested by AP Ohno Ben who agreed to move for the replenishment of the ADF from annual operating surpluses.
