LACM Report for 2022-2023

South East Asia Region

Report Date: 6 Jun 2023
Rachan Maneekarn, RD of South East Asia Region 2022-2023

1. Share what you consider to be the achievements/highlights of the Region and the Area

  1. Upgrading the SEA Board’s abilities and roles was required. As a result, RSD-LTOD Patricia Lim conducted four training sessions for DGs, RSDs, and club levels in the first quarter. I make every effort to participate in Hong Kong and SMIT District Council meetings, conferences, and interclub events in collaboration. I am fortunate to have the dedicated RSD-CE Stephanie Cheah who works tirelessly to urge all clubs in the Region to participate in the community service programs/projects. Numerous community service projects have been completed in the SEA Region, particularly during the YMI 100-year Centenary Cerebration.

  2. My gratitude for representing the Region in the ASP Area Council Meeting, which has been a wonderful opportunity for me to learn and share about Y’sdom while also representing the Region in liaison with the YMCA. I attended/participated in various events/activities to ensure that the relationships between YMI and the YMCA in our Region are strengthened and to inspire the clubs to improve their services to the YMCA and their communities far and near.

  3. I was honored to represent the region on the ASP SongFest Task Force, which works to promote songs chaired by Asaba Shunichiro. The Songbook is a contribution from the ASP Area to honor the 100th anniversary of YMI. It includes songs written by Y's Men for the event, as well as YMI songs written by Y's Men for their clubs, districts, and regions, as well as the SongFest Task Force led singing on stage during the Centennial Celebration in Taipei, Taiwan, and at the 89th SEA Regional Conference held at the Arize Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.

  4. I realized how important communication is in our organization. I was involved in Regional Council and Regional events, and we met several times to ensure their success. The 89th SEA Regional Conference, a physical gathering conduced from May 26 – 27, 2023 in Bangkok with 70 delegates from 8 countries/territories actively participating in the conference, which successfully demonstrated the SEA Region’s results.

2. Membership and Financial Target & Achievement (as may be applicable)

Due to the uncertain situation in the SEA Region caused by COVID-19, which harmed directly the membership campaign as well as the International Program Contributions. I believe that all DGs, and RSDs have tried their best efforts to encourage all clubs to be a part of that respective programs and activities in order to achieve their goals, but it should take more time to accomplish.

3. Outline specific objectives/actions you are proposing for 2023-24

As many of us know that there have been numerous complaints in the YMI movement since the resignation of IP KC Samuel on 17th January 2023, particularly in the ASP Area. I believe that it should be resolved as soon as possible in solidarity via peaceful means, with God’s guidance in Harmony, since if it is allowed to drag on any longer, it may bring the movement to the doom that is an unavoidable occurrence.

4. Indicate topics needing Area or International attention

Healthy sustainability allows YMI to have a global effect.
