LACM Report for 2021-2022

Immediate Past Area President

Report Date: 21 May 2022
David Lua, IPAP of Asia Pacific Area 2021-2022

1. Share what you consider to be the achievements/highlights of the Region and the Area

As IPAP, my role is to support the AP and provide counsel wherever and whenever needed.  I am pleased that the Area Executive Officers Team has worked well under the leadership of AP Ohno Ben.

Concurrently as Chair of the Area Development Committee has given me the opportunity to assist the AP in engaging past leaders in the affairs of the Area.

I consider an achievement that the Area Troika was of one mind in the matter of addressing the conflicts in the Philippine Region. The suspension of RD Ruben Siao from 1 Dec 2021 was unfortunate due to his refusal to acknowledge the authority of the Area Troika in resolving the conflicts.  However, the installation of the Philippine Regional Interim Administration Committee achieved its desired purpose to unite and strengthen the Region under the able leadership of PICM Larry Chan, PICM Dr. Inday Morales, and PRD Paul Lim.  Increased financial contributions towards the end of the term to International Programs were a record for the Region.

As a Team, the AEOs have shown empathy for developments in the Regions and given financial assistance where necessary.  The Area leadership has shown care and concern towards its membership and not sticking to past practices that may alienate members from the Area.

I had the opportunity to support the charter of 2 new clubs and 2 youth clubs in late April 2022 in the fast-growing country of Nepal in the SEA Region and also to conduct orientation for prospective members.  It was an exciting experience, thanks to DG Deepak Bhandari and the leadership of RD Joan Wong.

As ICM (2020-22), I have been engaged at the International level as the Chair of the BF Policy Review Task Force and as a member of the YMI Modernising Constitution Workgroup.  I am happy to attend the Special ICM on May 22 and the RDE Summit from 8 May to 14 May 22 in Dubai.  It was a fruitful time well spent, connecting with leaders from other Areas.

3. Outline specific objectives/actions you are proposing for 2022-23

I extend my best wishes to incoming AP Charming Shen for a successful 2022-23 with his new Area Team.

4. Indicate topics needing Area or International attention

Matters discussed at AEOs relating to the use of YES Fund and ADF will be presented to the Area Council for its approval.

5. Additional Comments, if any

I thank the AEOs and Area Team for their support and for making 2021-22 another rewarding year as we move beyond the 100 years.
