Interim Report for 2019-2020

Japan East Region

1. Specific Goals during the term

  1. To charter 5 new clubs
  2. To strengthen partnership between YMCAs and YMCs.
  3. To utilize SNS to raise awareness of the YMI in general as well as to solicit new members
  4. To publish two issues of the Regional Bulletin
  5. To issue the monthly newsletter on the first of each month
  6. To form 5 new IBC relationships and 2 triangle relationships
  7. To host the 28th Asia Pacific Area Convention in July in Sendai, Japan
  8. To hold leadership training sessions for DGEs and RSDEs in October 2019, and for CPEs and DSEs in March 2020.
  9. To regain the membership of 1,246, which was the total membership at the beginning of the Japan East Region, the Change! 2022 Promotion Committee was inaugurated last term. To raise awareness of the necessity of EMC through the activities of the Change! 2022 Promotion Committee
  10. To organize the 23rd Japan East Regional Convention on June 6, 2020 in Tokachi, Hokkaido

2. Measures to be taken to achieve the above mentioned goals

For EMC, the Region stresses and promotes the Change! 2022 Promotion Committee activities.

3. Achievements Made

  1. Two (2) clubs will be chartered during this term.
  2. Thanks to the activities of the Partnership Review Committee, the relationship between the YMCAs and YMCs have been strengthened.
  3. Twenty-eight (28) out of 61 clubs have established their Facebook account for promoting their activities.
  4. Published one Regional Bulletin in July.
  5. The monthly newsletter has been issued as scheduled.
  6. One triangle ( Tokachi-Taipei Downtown-Kyoto West) and one quadrangle (Atami-Tokyo Green- Manilla Downtown-Kyoto Palace) were signed at the 28th Asia Pacific Area Convention in July in Sendai.
  7. The 28th Asia Pacific Area Convention ended in a big success with a participation by 811 members.
  8. The leadership training for DGEs and RSDs was held in October. The training for CPEs and DSDs is scheduled on March 7th and 8th.
  9. To strengthen the awareness of the need of EMC among the members, the Change! 2022 Promotion Committee has been issuing a newsletter every month. Also, the EMC Symposium was held on Feb. 1, 2020.

4. Challenges

Though the Region is trying to increase the membership by utilizing SNS and through the activities of the Change! 2022 Promotion Committee, the membership is still very slow in growing. Needs more effort.

5. Additional Comments

The Japan East Region is most thankful to the Asia Pacific Area for its support with a 5,000USD donation from the NDERF for the relief activities for the victims of Typhoons Faxai and Hagibis. We are also most obliged to the participants of the RDE Summit in Toledo, Ohio, for their generous donations, totaling 2,940USD to the said victims.
