Initial Report for 2019-2020

YMI Liaison to YMCA

Kohei Yamada, ASD-YMI Liaison to YMCA

1. Short Term Goals/Plans (2019/20)

  1. In September 2019, there will be APAY General Assembly in Japan and they put “Partnership with YMI” as one focus group discussion during the YMCA Assembly. We invite AP of three Areas (Asia Pacific, India and Korea) for further discussion with YMCA leaders in Asia Pacific Regions from 24 countries.
  2. We will continue meeting in Japan for further development of partnership works in various YMCAs in Japan.

2. Medium/Long Term Goals/Plans (Next five years)

Depending on identifying a good and long term liaison, it would be difficult to spread this work in the future.
It would be good to develop a TOF project in some regions by YMCAs and which could be supported by some YMI Clubs or other country YMI with the support from YMCA. This should be encouraged in many countries.

3. Recommendation to the Area Meeting

I found that the Liaison to YMCA in each country should continue for at least three years (at least up to 2022) to develop good relationship with YMCA. Right now one year term of YL is too short to develop any partnership work with YMCA staff and lay leaders. Otherwise it would be difficult to see any progress.
Therefore, I would like to propose for selecting liaisons in each country in Asia Pacific Area who have good relationship with both YMCA and YMI in their country and the term last till 2022, YMI 100th Anniversary Year.
