Final Report for 2018-2019

YMI Liaison to YMCA

Kohei Yamada, ASD-YMI Liaison to YMCA

1. Greatest Achievement 2018/19

March 2018 We conducted a partnership meeting at the time of EXCO of APAY with IP Moon present with many YMCA leaders in Hong Kong. We discussed and decided to invite 10 potential leaders of YMCA or YMI who could be liaisons in each country in the Asia Pacific Area. As the result, we had 2 from Japan, one from Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Australia (A total of 7membersfrom the AP Area in IC2018 at Yeosu, Korea. It was a good meeting because they felt the power and interest of YMI movements during the International Convention.

2. Greatest Challenge 2018/19

Although we had a good meeting during the IC18 in Korea, and made good plans for each home country of the participants, and only a few have responded after the IC18, Japan, Australia. But difficult to communicate with many others. It has been difficult to keep in track since this is not really assigned work for many of them. In stead, the participation of IC18 as a potential liaison staff was in many respects selected as an oversea exposure to the YMI and IC. We need to identify persons who would commit to become a real liaison between YMCA and YMI in each country.

3. Key Activities 2018/19

  1. The IC18 and its forum with partnership with YMCA was very well accepted. At the same time we discussed further strategies in each country based on their observation. This was a great opportunity for potential liaison staff to be motivated well after they return home countries.
  2. I have tried to make a good example of partnership model in Japan first. We organized a special task team from both YMCA and two Regions of Japan as well as two retired YMCA staff and YM members as liaisons.

4. Status/Result (Completed, Ongoing, etc.)

  1. It promoted a good understanding of YMI by attending such meetings.
  2. We have conducted four 2 day long meetings in the last two years, starting in Oct 2017 and the last one was in April 2019 and discussed the possible partnership works in several YMCAs in Japan with their partners YMI clubs. We will conduct liaison staff meeting @Regional Convention of both E & W Japan Regions in June 2019.
