South East Asia Region

Taweechai Termkunanon, RD of South East Asia Region

1. Specific Goals during the term

  1. Phnom Penh Y Service Club was Chartered on 8 December 2018 with initial 17 members.
  2. No report of planned contribution for International Projects.

2. Measures to be taken to achieve the above mentioned goals

  1. Attended Silver State Club’s installation of the President and Board of Directors
  2. Participated in the Leadership Training of leaders from 4 clubs in Thailand and attending joint installation of the 4 Clubs in Thailand
  3. Undertook two missions to HK District for 1) Attending the joint meeting of HK District clubs and 2)
  4. Attending SEA Regional Council Meeting and greeting the Clubs at the HK District Council Meeting.
  5. Witnessed the inter-region IBC signing ceremony between YSC New Tsuen Wan of HK and YMC Kaoshiung the Port in Kaoshiung, Taiwan
  6. Attended in the 60th Anniversary Celebration of Beta Chapter, Singapore at Metropolitan YMCA. Singapore
  7. Officiated at the Charter of Phnom Penh Y Service Club, Cambodia

3. Achievements made

  1. Inaugurated the successfully organized 86th SEA Regional Conference in Chiangmai with 51 participants including International Officers and observers from Nepal
  2. Overall increase of 3 members in the region, from 424 to 427, inclusive of 17 new members from the newly chartered Phnom Penh YSC

4. Challenges

The large geographical spread of SEA Region, spanning 7 countries, leads to challenges in organizing District and Regional events due to the time consumption and high costs of international air travel. Proposed to re-structure by upgrading HK District to HK Region with 2 or more Districts within HK (to be decided by the HK clubs) and SMIT District to SMIT Region with 2 or more Districts. For proposed SMIT Region, possibly, 1) Southern SMIT District covering Malaysia and Singapore Clubs (Beta Chapter, Ipoh Club, Alpha Chapter, Berbakti Club and Silver State Clubs) and 2) Northern SMIT District covering Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Cambodia (Bangkok, Chiangmai, Chiangrai, Lanna Chiangmai, Yangon, Dhaka Central, Dhaka North and Phnom Penh Clubs) or such names and affiliation as the individual clubs may prefer.

5. Motions to be considered by ACM

To consider the proposal to re-organize / re-structure the SEA Region into 2 Regions, viz HK Region and SMIT Region with the 2 (or more) Districts in each of the Region.
